  1. Awesome job Justin & Michael. This is all very valuable information and I appreciate you taking the time to put it together.

  2. Justin,

    Can you share the Terminal commands to engage FDE when the Mac’s lid is closed? You mentioned in the podcast that this was possible. Would like to know more.

    1. Unk:
      No problem. I meant to get a post out on this but have been extremely busy over the last few weeks. The commands I mentioned in the show enforce hibernation rather than simply letting the machine go to sleep.

      $ sudo pmset -a destroyfvkeyonstandby 1
      $ sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 25

      You also probably want to change your standby settings. If the machine wakes from sleep and doens’t have valid crypto keys (because of this setting) it will shut down. You can prevent this by entering the following commands:

      $ sudo pmset -a powernap 0
      $ sudo pmset -a standby 0
      $ sudo pmset -a standbydelay 0
      $ sudo pmset -a autopoweroff 0

      Thanks for listening!
      Justin
